DEI Statement

The Nova Scotia Veterinary Medical Association (NSVMA) is committed to fostering and maintaining a professional environment that is inclusive, equitable and diverse in its mission to serve animals, the public, and our members. We acknowledge and welcome multiple diverse identities in our clients, colleagues and collaborators. These identities include and are not limited to those defined by age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, physical or mental ability, African Nova Scotians, Indigenous Peoples, and members of other racially marginalized and underrepresented communities. The NSVMA strives to create a culture of respect, understanding, and belonging, ensuring that diversity is celebrated and that all voices within the veterinary profession are heard and valued.

The NSVMA membership is diverse and we value multiple approaches and different points of view. We believe that by working together, we can make the veterinary profession in Nova Scotia an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive community. The NSVMA stands firmly against discrimination of any kind and affirms that all our members and clients are valuable and deserving of dignity and respect.

The NSVMA is committed to actively promoting and enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion across our membership, leadership, and organization, and educating our members regarding their value. A diverse, inclusive veterinary profession ensures equity deserving groups—including Indigenous Peoples, African Nova Scotians, persons with disabilities, and members of other under-represented groups—are genuinely included and given opportunities to succeed. We strive for a veterinary community that is welcoming, culturally humble and flexible, and critically responsive to all forms of discrimination in all veterinary environments. Through our actions, we aim to serve the public in a way that respects and includes the many values, priorities and perspectives held by the people of Nova Scotia.
